Doris Ruth Dunn Owen, age 87, our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on March 6, 2018 after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Doris was born in Flagstaff, Arizona on February 22, 1931 to Charles Elbert Dunn and Barbara Beverstock Dunn. She enjoyed much of her youth surrounded by the beauty and majesty of The Grand Canyon National Park. Her father worked as a tour guide at the Grand Canyon and she enjoyed many a mule ride down and up the canyon. In 1946, she moved up to Mount Pleasant, Utah to attend Wasatch Academy High School. She graduated in 1949. She and some of her closest schoolmates then moved up to Salt Lake City where she would eventually meet William Edward Owen, son of Loren and Wanda Owen. They married on November 24, 1951 at the First Unitarian Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had three children. Doris worked as a homemaker and was employed for many years as an optician at Standard Optical in Salt Lake City and West Valley, Utah. She retired in 1996. She always enjoyed travelling with William and their children. She always had a soft spot for the red rock canyons of Southern Utah and her beloved Grand Canyon National Park. She enjoyed collecting information on family history, knitting, sewing, gardening, bird watching and listening to opera. She was a great supporter of the arts, and enjoyed attending theatrical performances of her son Jeffrey and musical performances of her son William Owen Jr. Doris is survived by her children, daughter Dawn Owen Broadbent, son William Owen II, and son Jeffrey Owen. She had 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Elbert Dunn and Barbara Beverstock Dunn, and her husband, William Owen. Many thanks to her doctors Belinda Trieu, and Hannah Raasch at The IHC Memorial Clinic and The IHC Salt Lake Clinic, the medical staff at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Also, the hospice care nurses and physical therapists at Caregivers Support Network and Mount Olympus Rehabilitation Center. Your expert care, love and support were greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Heart Association and The American Lung Association There will be a gathering where friends and family can visit at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, 11:00am to 1:00pm on May 13, 2018.
