Obituary for Thomas Leon Gregory Johnson
FORT WORTH – Thomas Leon Gregory Johnson, passed away at his home with his mother, Judy and his aunt, Lois by his side on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 1:30 a.m.
Greg suffered from CHF for several years. Greg had only 20% of his heart function for several years yet he continued to support five people. He was hospitalized quiet often over the past few years for his heart condition. Greg was absolutely a fighter.
Greg attended Meacham Middle School and Diamond Hill Jarvis High. He had many many life long friends from “The Hill” and remained friends till the end.
Greg came from a big family with many cousins that all grew up together, sharing many Holiday gatherings as a family. Greg loved his family and asked but one thing in his last week of life, that God allow him to live thru the weekend so he could be with his family. He had planned a picnic, but that was not to be because of rain so we had a small lunch at his home with several family and friends.
Greg asked but one thing of me and that was to allow him to die here at home. I kept that promise to him. He and I talked of death often and altho he wanted to live, but he was prepared to go. We spoke of his Manga meeting him in heaven along with loved ones that had gone on before him and seeing the face of Jesus. I told him from what I believed, if he could return, he would not want too. Heaven is such a place of beauty he would never want to return.
Greg was such a character, he could be so nerve racking and loud but he was a big guy with a big heart. Some took his generosity and his kindness as a weakness but how far from the truth that was. He worked in the freezing cold as an electrician this past New Years Eve to make enough money to pay a certain family’s rent, as sick as he was. It put him down and he never recovered from it.
Greg had a baby brother, John Eric Johnson, three years younger than himself. He and Eric loved each other and they had so many plans together, but God had other plans. Even as sick as Greg was he managed to give his baby brother a truck and many tools. He did love Eric.
God called Greg home after 53 yrs. I was privileged to be chosen by God to be Greg’s mother and I was privileged to be allowed to see Greg being taken back to heaven.
After he took his last breath on this earth, I held him tightly to me and he melted into my soul. Greg leaves behind many family, friends and loved ones. His cousin Sanford “Butch” Hedges passed away one week before Greg did, so our loss has been tremendous.
Survivors: Mother, Judy E. Kelly; sons, Danny S. Johnson, Thomas Gregory Johnson; daughter, Ashley; four grandchildren; his uncle, James Springer and wife, Kathleen; and his aunts, Lexie and Lois and husband, Lewis Godfrey.
Greg I will miss you everyday that I draw breath as will your baby brother, but we all plan to meet soon in heaven.
