Willie L. Pegues was born to Doris Glover Pegues and Willie L. Pegues, Sr. on September 11, 1952. He was a bouncy hefty baby boy. He was loved by his grandparents Sandy/Leola Glover and James /Lurlean Pegues. Willie was a member of the 12 Year Society at Melrose High School graduating in The Class of 1970. He enjoyed school and participated in school activities as a member of The Knights and co-captain of Melrose winning football team. He received a football scholarship… Read More » to Morgan State University. He returned to Memphis and worked at Memphis Correctional Center (Mark Luttrell Center). He later was employed by the Federal Correction Institute in Memphis and retired as an I Tech Supervisor in 2009. He received the key to the city for aborting a robbery at National Bank of Commerce. He was blessed on January 13, 1996, with a darling baby girl Makaila Nicole Pegues who was his “spoiled brat.” He was anticipating with pride her graduation from UT Chattanooga in May. Willie loved traveling. He has probably been to most states, Canada, Bahamas and the Caribbean in his travels with The Glover/Rembert Family Reunion, Melrose Mass Reunions and Orange Mound Senior Center Tours. Willie was married to Fannie Purry Pegues September 16, 2016 Willie was a member of Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church where he served in the Manna Outreach Ministry. He was a member of Orange Mound Community Senior Center where he graduated from Toastmasters and loved to swim. He was active with the Class of 1970 in their many activities and volunteered as a mentor at Melrose High School. Devoted to his memory and understanding that “All things work together for the good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28) are his wife Fannie; daughter Makaila ; brothers, James(Natalie), Charles(Carol), Gregory(Barbara) and one sister Donna(Anthony) Dean; aunts, Lillie Nelson, Geraldine Minley, Gwen Glover and Hazell Jones, uncle Tyler(Virginia) Glover; mother in law Idella Purry and family’ a host of nieces, nephews cousins and many dear friends.
