Obituary for Robert J Burke
Robert J. Burke, 90, of Towanda, PA passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Robert was born in Sullivan County, PA on October 16, 1927 the son of Charles and Gertrude Burke. He grew up in Mildred, PA and while attending high school, was active in baseball and basketball. He later moved to New Albany, PA and subsequently Towanda, PA. Robert served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post No. 452 in Mildred. In early years, he was employed by the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company in Mildred, Dushore Sewing factory, served as a deliveryman for Weeds Beer Distributorship and worked at Masonite Corporation in Wysox. He retired from the Wyalusing School District in the 1980’s. Robert loved sports and was a devoted fan of University of Notre Dame football, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox baseball. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a dedicated follower of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Robert was a member of the Bradford and Sullivan County Dart Leagues and was honored over the years with numerous awards for his accomplishments and skill as one of the best dart players in the area. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, caring for his property, gardening and cook outs with his special group of friends. He is survived by his son, Christopher Dunham of Towanda, sister, Florence Fedulchak of Westland, MI, cousin, Lorraine Wanagitis of Mildred as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Juane Burke, brother, William Burke and two brothers in infancy. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
