Obituary for Philip Strong Philip Earl Strong, 84 passed away Friday, April 6, 2018. He was born July 27, 1933 in Stoneville, NC son to the late Hamilton Scott & Roxie Craig Strong. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Mr. Strong is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Swaim C. Strong, three daughters; Patti Jones, husband Robby of Indian Trail, Mandy Williams, husband Ron of Rockvale, TN, and Dru Strong of Monroe, a son Earl Strong of Goodlettsville, TN, three grandchildren Meredith Jones, Whitney Jones, and Maron Williams. In 1955 he joined the Highway Patrol & served in High Point, NC for 19 years. In 1974 he was promoted & assigned as Line Sgt. in Union and Anson County. He loved every day on the patrol even with its dangers. He survived a serious car accident and was shot in the leg while in Guildford County. Phil was a USAF Veteran, and he retired in 1985 as a State Trooper from the N.C. Highway Patrol with 30 years of service. He worked for Penegar Real Estate & Appraisal Company, and later started his own Appraisal Business, Strong Appraisals. Also a major interest in his life was sports; he coached both football and baseball in High Point and in Monroe. He was very involved with his four children in their competitive swimming. With an interest in acting he performed in a variety of venues, Union County Players, and for 20 years was Col. Williams R. Davie in the outdoor drama “Listen & Remember” Upon retirement he auditioned for a part in the Steven Spielberg movie “The Color Purple” and was chosen to play the part of Mayor, one of the few local speaking parts. As a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, he was elected Deacon and Elder and served on many committees in High Point & Monroe. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, April 9, 2018 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.
