B. Irene Bass, 86, of Sanford, NC passed away Thursday March 29, 2018 at Westfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born September 13, 1931 in Winchester, Tennessee to the late Lucy and Charles McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband John Edward Bass.
Irene was raised in Winchester, Tennessee and graduated from Franklin County High School. She worked as a school secretary for Oakdale Elementary School in Spring Lake, NC and later retired from Deep River Elementary… Read More » School in Sanford. Irene was a devoted member of First Baptist Church serving as a deacon, church clerk, choir member, and a teacher of the Eunice Rhyne Sunday School Class. One of Irene’s most passionate endeavors was her card ministry. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by a son Charles “Chuck” Bass (Joanne) of Cary, NC; a daughter Deborah Setzer (Mike) of Hampstead, NC; a sister Frances Tucker; a brother Charles Alfred McKinney; and four grandchildren Reese, Quinn, Tori, and Abby.
The family will receive friends on Friday April 6, 2018 from 12-1PM at First Baptist Church in Sanford. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1PM in the sanctuary with Pastor Brian Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Lee Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church General Fund at 202 Summitt Drive Sanford, NC 27330 or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
