Obituary for Greg Lay
71-year-old, Greg Lay of Vandalia, Illinois, formerly of Herrick, Illinois died Monday, April 2, 2018 at 10:33 PM at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois. Funeral services will be at a later date. Greg Lay was born Sunday, February 9, 1947 in Rockwood, Tennessee, the son of Carl Edward and Margaret Mabel (maiden name Davison) Lay. Greg was raised in Herrick, Illinois and attended Herrick Elementary and Herrick High School with the Class of 1965. Greg Lay was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Greg married Patricia Mae Smith on June 1, 1984 in Herrick, Illinois. Greg Lay taught HVAC at Lake Land College and later owned and operated Lay Heating and Air Conditioning. Greg’s memberships included Vandalia American Legion, AMVETs, and VFW.
Greg Lay is survived by Spouse Patricia Mae Lay of Vandalia, Illinois; two sons: Darrin Lay (Debbi) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and Michael Shane Lay (Kathleen) of Haubstadt, Indiana; four grandaughters: Taylor Lay of Jeffersonville, Indiana; Maisie Lay of Haubstadt, Indiana; Lexie Davis (Zach) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Meghan Lay of Jeffersonville, Indiana; one grandson: Skylar Lay of Haubstadt, Indiana; and one great-granddaughter: Camdyn Davis of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Also surviving Greg are two sisters: Terre Phelps (Mike) of Shelbyville, Illinois, and Donna Collins (Mike) of Clearwater, Florida; two brothers: Franklin Lay of Pana, Illinois; and Elvin Lay (Shannon) of Chatham, Illinois. Greg is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Edward Lay.
