Obituary of Roberta Hay
Roberta Jean Hartley Hay was born on June 3, 1925 to Bessie and Jim Hartley. She grew up in the Fern Hill neighborhood of Tacoma, attending Fern Hill School, Stewart Junior High School, and Lincoln High School.
Granddaughter of the King family homesteaders who settled on the Queets River, the Olympic Peninsula was always special to her. She and her husband, Otis, built a cabin on the Clearwater River and enjoyed being part of Clearwater-Kalaloch Lions Club. Roberta was a very talented artist, enjoying sketching and painting. She loved to garden, arrange flowers and was a gifted wood carver. She joined her husband in traveling the world, including all seven continents. She was an excellent fisherwoman and always dug her limit of clams.
A member for over 60 years of Bethany United Methodist Church, Roberta passed away peacefully on March 22, 2018 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by husband Otis and son Don. She is survived by daughter, Nancy Witter (Jim); son, Cliff Hay (Nikki); grandchildren, Jennifer Witter Lerch (Scott), Susan Witter O’Leary (Mike), Melani Hay Pedroza (Alex), Kristi Hay Harris (Jimbo), and Wil Hay; and great grandchildren, Kyle, Conor, Nicole, Heather, Violet, Logan, Brett, and Lucy. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Selden.
A graveside service will be held at New Tacoma Cemetery on Saturday, March 31st at 12:00 pm. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm at New Tacoma Cemetery’s Chambers Creek Chapel, University Place, WA.
