Robert Jeff Smalley
June 2, 1958 – March 29, 2018
Robert “Jeff” Smalley, 59, passed away peacefully in his home on March 29, 2018 after a long and courageous journey with his health. He was born in Ogden on June 2, 1958 to Margaret F. Dineen and Donald H. Smalley. Jeff graduated from Ben Lomond High.
Jeff was a “jack of all trades”, he loved to learn and tinker, he knew how everything and anything worked and was a master welder. He enjoyed helping people and gave freely of his time and many talents. Jeff was a friend to all, and accepted people as they are without judgement. He loved to fish at Flaming Gorge and loved boating and camping.
Jeff is truly one of the kindest, most knowledgeable, generous and down to earth men we’ve ever known. His example of service and unconditional love has influenced all our lives for good. We are incredibly blessed to count him as husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Jeff married the love of his life, Jaelynn, in 1988. They raised an incredible family together including 3 children and 6 grandchildren. His family was his proudest accomplishment – he loved his wife and family fiercely, and his grandchildren are the light of his life!
Jeff received a life-saving heart transplant in 2003, and his family is so grateful for the extra 15 years we’ve had with him because of the gift of organ donation, and the incredible skills of the doctors and nurses who cared for him. He remained positive and strong through all of his health trials, and was an example of patience, endurance and courage until the end.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife Jaelynn; daughters Ashley Odekirk, Jessica Poll (Jon) and son Jake Smalley (Kearstyn); 6 grandchildren, Alizae, Dezerae, Blakelee, Maizie, McCoy & Stella; siblings, Jim Smalley, Lyn Gibbs (Wade), Shaun Kay and Scott Smalley (Wendy). He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Jay Barker.
Special thanks to Dr. Gary McKenzie & Dr. Margaret Moses and the many incredible caregivers at the IMC Heart Clinic.
Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 6 to 8 pm. and Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Funeral will be at 11 am on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert
