Charles Chiplowitz, of Harrisburg PA, passed away quietly on Sunday March 25, 2018 at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family. Charles was the son of the late Peter Chiplowitz and Bessie Bernstein Chiplowitz. He is also preceded in death by loving wife of 69 years; Goldie Chiplowitz in 2013 and by his daughter; Sherri Plevins.
Charles is survived by his daughter; Holly Vogel and her husband Bruce, of Boynton Beach FL. He is also survived by four beautiful grandchildren; Jami Field, Eric Field, Alyssa Laeser and Lauren Haring. Charles, as well, leaves behind four beautiful great grandchildren; Joshua, Alexa, Sean and Benjamin.
Charles served honorably; in the United States Army Air Corps, as a maintenance instructor on the famous B-29 “Flying Fortress.” Following his military service, he worked 22 years for the Gettysburg Shoe Company, when he ended his career as an Executive Vice President, before pursuing other interests.
In his spare time; Charles adored spending time with his family, as well as taking “leather craft” to its highest artistic expression by creating almost life-like carvings done totally in leather. He also applied this talent to the creation of numerous unique women’s hand bags, which he designed and created himself. Besides his artistic side, Charles was known for getting out on the greens on occasion and was quite the avid golfer.
Services for Charles will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2018 at Chisuk Emuna Jewish Cemetery Chapel, 55 North 34th Street, Harrisburg PA at 12PM. Rabbi Ron Murroff, officiating. Burial will occur immediately following the service. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Homeland Hospice, 2300 Varatan Way, Suite 270, Harrisburg PA 17110.
