J. CAROLYN STEVENS
J. Carolyn Stevens, 87, of Piqua, peacefully passed away Thursday morning, March 22, 2018 at the Koester Pavilion. She was born December 12, 1930 in Ashville to the late Emmett and Annette (Sweyer) Brown. She married Regnald B. “Reggie” Stevens October 2, 1949 in Covington, and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Regnald “Barney” (Marlene) Stevens Jr. of Galloway, Jon (Rita) Stevens of Piqua; five grandchildren, Adrienne (Rob) Glenn, Regnald B. (Jessie) Stevens III, Andrew Stevens, Jonathan (Kim) Stevens, Rebekah (Dane) Vagedes; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Atkinson; a granddaughter Elizabeth Atkinson; a brother, David Brown; and a sister, Joanne Stevens.
Mrs. Stevens was a 1948 graduate of Plain City High School, Dayton School of Practical Nursing in 1972 and the Registered Nursing program of Edison State Community College in 1982. She retired as a Registered Nurse in 2008 following thirty-six years of service at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Dettmer, Stouder, and Wilson hospitals. Her passion in life was helping others and her love of art. She was a long time member of St. James and St. Marks Episcopal Churches, the Western Ohio Watercolor Society, Greenville Art Guild, Country Workshop Artists of Troy, Fairborn Art Association, Piqua Visual Art Society, Piqua Arts Council, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed writing about her experiences as a nurse and her life as a guest columnist for the Piqua Daily Call newspaper and she authored the book Special Needs of Long Term Patients which was published in 1974. Throughout her life she created many beautiful painting having received many awards from various art shows. Her works of art are treasured by a host of family and friends. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends and her favorite long time pet dog, Earl.
A time to honor her life is planned from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Ambulance Fund, P. O.
