William G. Farmer passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 after fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and keeping the faith. William was the husband of Judith Boyette Farmer; father of W. Gifford Farmer II and wife Glenda Hensley Farmer, Sarah (Sissy) Farmer-Phillips and husband Michael (Mike) Phillips, Jenny Smathers and husband Eddie Smathers of Sheridan, MT; grandfather to William Joseph Gifford Farmer, William Robert Daniel Farmer, Steven Smathers of Sheridan, MT; step-grandfather to Andrew Hensley, Wayne Swanger and three step-granddaughters.
He is also survived by a sister, Hazel Bradshaw; a brother, Robert Lee Farmer; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin L. Farmer and Lily Messer Woods, and two brothers, Harold Lee and James Herman Farmer.
Mr. Farmer was of Baptist faith. He was retired from Champion International Papers in Waynesville with over 30 years of service. He was a volunteer in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park with the Elk Foundation for over 10 years helping reintroduce the elk back to the Smokies. He loved making Bluegrass music with his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at White Oak Baptist Church with Pastor Marty Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801; Haywood Hospice of Clyde, or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation – Great Smoky Mountains Chapter.
