Obituary of Floyd DelGrosso
Floyd “Shooty” DelGrosso, age 94, of Addison, NY, passed away on March 23, 2018 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers. Floyd was born November 7, 1923 in Galeton, PA to parents Costanzo and Lucia. He married Margaret “Peggy” Funk on March 29, 1948 in Galeton, PA. Margaret predeceased him on April 24, 2017. He was also predeceased by eldest son, Glenn (Priscilla) on February 1, 2010.
Floyd was a veteran of WWII having served as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class, in the Pacific theater, on board the Navy destroyer USS Mansfield. He received an honorable discharge February 21, 1946. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion posts.
Upon separation from the service, Floyd attended college in Alfred and Mansfield. After graduating he taught history and finished his years in education as a guidance counselor for the Addison Central School district. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Addison.
Floyd enjoyed bowling, the daily crossword and word jumbles, Yankees baseball, house painting, working in the garden, and, as a Charter member of the Addison Pinnacle, golfing.
He is survived by his children: Floyd Jr. “Chubby” (Aggie) of Painted Post, Michael (Betty) of Painted Post, Daniel (Janet) of Montour Falls, and David of Beaver Dams as well as grandchildren: Megan, Evan, Cassie, Adam, Josiah, Samara, Gianna, Giovanni, Joshua, and Ryan. There are also several great grandchildren.
Floyd was predeceased by brothers: Antonio, Daniel, Anthony, Larry and George and sisters: Leah, Helen and Grace.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service and committal will be held on Monday, March 26, at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Addison, at 11:00am with Father Pat Connor officiating.
