FRANKFORT – Mrs. Barbara E. (Vogel) Ouderkirk, age 76, currently of Frankfort and formerly of 9 Ann Street, St. Johnsville, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, March 27, 2018, at the Little Falls Hospital.
Born on April 8, 1941, in Canajoharie, Barbara was the daughter of the late Harry, Sr. and Florence (Russ) Vogel. She was raised and educated locally and graduated from high school. On October 20, 1962, she was wed to Mr. Larry T. Ouderkirk at the St. Johnsville Reformed Church, and together they shared in a beautiful life of over forty-three years, until Larry’s passing on January 23, 2006. Their marriage was characterized by their true love, their mutual devotion and the respect and admiration that they had for one another.
Barbara was a hardworking woman who at one time worked in the dietary department at Little Falls Hospital for many years. She also worked at the 5s Diner in Fort Plain. Foster parenting, however, was Barbara’s greatest achievement throughout her career. She cared for many children throughout the years, providing them love and guidance. She was a selfless and giving woman who loved decorating for the holidays and tending her flower garden. She was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church.
Survivors include her beloved daughter, Holly Ouderkirk of Herkimer; her sons, Jeffrey Ouderkirk and Stephen Ouderkirk, both of Mohawk; her aunt, Marjorie Dingman; her uncle, Elton Vogel; and her sisters-in-law, Barbara Bernard of Chatham, MA, Evelyn Matus of St. Johnsville, and Marilyn Pryzdatek of Boston, MA. She also leaves her dear friend, Roberta Sportello of Frankfort, and her beloved dog, Olivia.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Harry “Sonny: Vogel, Jr. and Stewart Vogel; and her sisters, Beverly Campbell, Leona Pinkowski and Betty Vogel Hopkins.
A graveside service will take place in the Spring of 2018 in Fort Plain Cemetery. Barbara’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
