John Edward Biegel, Jr., 83, of Clifton passed away peacefully on March 22, 2018.
Born in Passaic, Mr. Biegel lived in Clifton for most of his life. He had been employed as a steelworker with Athenia Steel of Clifton and then owned JB’s Luncheonette on Van Houten Avenue and JB’s Limo Service, both in Clifton. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving during the Korean War. Mr. Biegel was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 8 in Clifton, Past County Commander of the American Legion for Passaic County and Past Vice-President for the American Legion Department of New Jersey, a member and Past Commander of VFW Post 6487 Allwood Memorial Post in Clifton, member and Past Commander of the Athenia Veterans Post, V.P. and ROTC Liaison for the Navy League-North Jersey Council, a member of the Military Transport Association of New Jersey, a member of AARP, Chairman of the Clifton Veterans’ Avenue of Flags and Chairman of the Clifton War Veterans Monument Committee. In addition, he also served on the Clifton Veterans Day Parade Committee and was Co-Chairman of the Clifton Memorial Day Parade Committee, was the Veteran Liaison for the Clifton Recreation Department’s “Salute to Veterans” and from them was awarded the “Friends of Clifton Recreation Award”, received an award as “Citizen of the Year” from the Clifton ELKS, won the Mayor James Anzaldi Community Service Award from St. Andrew’s in Clifton, was President of the Daughters of Miriam Resident’s Association and was a volunteer for the Clifton Health Department. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul RC Church
Mr. Biegel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (nee Giorgione) in 1981 and by his parents: John Edward Biegel, Sr. and Felicia (Fannie) (nee Muglia) Biegel.
He is survived by his three devoted children: Kathleen Fieldhouse and her husband, Thomas, Jeffrey Biegel and his wife, Ida and John Edward Biegel III and his wife, Maryann; by his dear sister, Frances Fornelius and her husband, Harvey; three loving grandchildren: Melissa Switz and her husband, Mayzer Ramadan, Jason Fieldhouse and his wife, Dana and Derek Fieldhouse and his wife, Melissa; five cherished great-grandchildren: Sophia, Gavin, Ayden, Laila and Ava; and loving granddog, Bella.
Visiting will be Monday from 3-8 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be Tuesday 9:00 am from the funeral home and 10:00 am at St. Paul RC Church, cor. Union Avenue & Second Street, Clifton. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Clifton Veterans’ Avenue of Flags c/o Clifton City Clerk’s Office, 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, NJ 07013 would be preferred and appreciated.
