Irene Wolan Scollard 2018

Irene Scollard, age 96 of Dearborn passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018. She was born in Detroit in 1921 and grew up Irene Wolan in Melvindale as the 3rd of 10 children. Irene was a courageous and adventurous woman. She was an Army veteran, having served in the Women ‘s Army Auxiliary Corps from 1943-1945. She was stationed in Luzon, Philippines working in the offices supporting General MacArthur’s forces.
She worked briefly as a flight attendant prior to embarking on a long, successful career as an executive assistant at Ford Motor Company. She married William E. Scollard in 1977, bravely taking on the role of stepmother to his 8 children.
Irene was very generous with both her time and treasure. She loved helping those in need, whether the children at St. Jude’s Research Hospital, children of the Head Start program or family and friends.
Irene is predeceased by her siblings Josephine (Adam) Kalisz, Raymond (Ann) Wolan, Harold (Mary Ellen) Wolan, Dorothy (Glen) Piot, and Stanley Wolan. She is survived by her sister Geraldine (Chuck) Boncher, her brother Al (Micki) Wolan, her daughter Samantha (Tad) Truex and grandchildren Teddy and Abby, her godchildren Nancy Lanzon, Carol Souten, Tom Wolan and Joan Boncher,. She is also survived by 6 other stepchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held at Voran Funeral Home on Ford Rd. in Dearborn at 2-6pm on Sunday March 25 with a rosary service at 3pm. Funeral services will take place at St. Kateri Catholic Church at 16101 Rotunda Drive in Dearborn at 10am on Monday, March 26. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene’s honor to her favorite charity St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital online at
