Dr. Jeff Harlin Jenkins, Ph.D., age 81, passed away at 11:52 a.m. March 25, 2018 at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green. He was born in Gamaliel, Kentucky March 8, 1937 to Tom Jeff & Bessie Harlin Jenkins. Dr. Jenkins was Professor of Biology at WKU for 33 years, serving as Head of the Department for 7 years during the 80s. He was on sabbatical leave at The Ohio State University for the 1971-72 academic year where he participated in all activities of the Botany and Plant Pathology Departments, including guest lecturers of national and international stature and relevant classes and projects. He was an honor graduate of Western Kentucky University, class editor of the Talisman Yearbook, President of the Cherry Country Club, student dorm counselor, and member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Jeff earned his M.S. and Ph.D. at Louisiana State University in Plant Pathology. He was a loving father and husband and faithful Christian at Lost River Church of Christ. He and his daughter were avid WKU Basketball fans. He enjoyed friends, fishing, hunting, and traveling all of his life. He especially enjoyed entertaining with fish frys in his home. He is survived by his loving wife Dr. Martha Combs Jenkins, his daughter, Dr. Ann Beth Presley (Rusty), and his son, James Jeffrey Jenkins, R.N. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday and 9:00 to 11:00 am Thursday at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. The funeral will be at 11:00 Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Bowling Green Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the College Heights Foundation designated for the Jeff and Martha Jenkins Scholarship Fund, the Steen-Jenkins Scholarship Fund, or the Warren County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund; the Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society Educational Foundation designated for the Martha Combs Jenkins Scholarship Fund.
