Robert L. Hoffman, 71, of Edwardsville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Edwardsville. He was born October 6, 1946 in Granite City, the son of the late Louis and Ellen Grace (Morgan) Hoffman. He married Candace (Ehlert) Hoffman on July 4, 1968 and she survives. The United States veteran retired as a Staff Sergeant with over 20 years of dedicated service with the Army. He had also worked as a bus driver with Granite City Township and at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lynn Hoffman of Belleville and Jeffrey and Gwen Hoffman of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Joe Walters of Troy; six grandchildren, Corey Walters, Ashley and Ian McLaughlin, Emily Walters, Zachary Walters, Ryan Walters and Christopher Hoffman; one great granddaughter, Isla McLaughlin; five sisters, Lois Glasgow, Nancy Wickham, Ruth Yager, Elizabeth Rohlfing and Patricia McBride; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be at Irwin Chapel on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Mark Powell officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
