Obituary of Marian Roemer
Marian Roemer, age 91, of Springfield, Il. and formerly of Palmyra, Il. died early Friday morning (March 23, 2018) at Heritage Hospice at Memorial in Springfield, Il.
She was born August 3, 1926 in Palmyra, Il. daughter of the late Glenn and Ruth Ross Redfern.
She married Lyman Roemer on August 26, 1954 in Palmyra, Il. and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1982.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn Haberman (Ted) of Springfield, Il., Brenda Gibbs (Greg) of Benton, Il. and Harvey Roemer (Jamie) of Springfield, Il.; eight grandchildren, Rachel Haberman of St. Louis, Mo., Regan Haberman of Chicago, Il., Andrea Gibbs of Benton, Il., Alex Gibbs (Mallory) of Benton, Il., Kevin Gibbs of Benton, Il., Jenna Roemer of Charleston, Il., Collin Roemer of Bloomington, Il., Lindsay Roemer of Springfield, Il.; two great-grandchildren, Cali Ann and Keaton Gibbs of Benton, Il..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one grandson, Joshua Gibbs.
Marian was a 1944 graduate of Scottville High School in Scottville and was a 1950 graduate of Illinois State Normal University graduating with a degree in Business and a minor in Home Economics. She later continued her education at UCLA in California. She taught at Victory school south of Scottville and then taught business in Pontiac and Carlinville high schools retiring in 1961 to start a family. She then farmed with her husband on their Centennial farm for many years and lived on that farm until 2015. She was secretary/ treasure for North Palmyra Farmers Mutual until 2007. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra, Il. where she was a deaconess. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past member of the Lioness Club. She was also a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society. Her special interests including, traveling, cooking, family, playing cards, and flowers and gardening.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday (March 26, 2018) at the Stults-Neece Chapel in Palmyra, Il. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon Monday until the time of service at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Northwestern Rescue Squad or Silver Strands both c/o Stults-Neece Chapel, 349 Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.
